A groundbreaking eco-friendly plastic is reportedly on the edge of hitting the market, according to a new environmental and technology investigation.
FREMONT, CA: There is a strong push in the sector right now to implement circular economy principles. Everyone is striving to recycle whatever they put on the market, and there is a lot of interest in using 100 percent indefinitely recycled plastics.
A simulation is presented of a plant that produces new products and recycles used products every year, putting out 20,000 metric tons of PDKs each year. Comparing their findings to the equivalent figures for conventional plastic production, the authors calculated the chemical inputs and technologies needed, as well as costs and greenhouse gas emissions.

Checking the boxes of cheap and easy: Plastic has been produced over 8.3 billion metric tons to date, and the vast majority of this has gone to landfills or waste incineration plants. Recycling plastics by mechanical means involves melting them down and reconstituting them.
By integrating resin polymers with an acid, PDK plastics eliminate this problem - when mixed with an acid, and the resin polymers easily break down into individual monomers. By separating the monomers from additives, new plastics can be created without losing quality.
A full circle future: The scientists are continuing their techno-economic collaboration on the PDK manufacturing process while they develop preparations for a commercial launch. Even though the cost of recycled PDK is already anticipated to be competitively low, scientists are attempting to reduce the cost of virgin PDK further so that businesses are not put off by the high initial investment cost.

According to recent research, it may be simple and inexpensive enough to produce and recycle their revolutionary new plastic, leaving older plastics in the dust.
Most plastic recycling facilities shred and melt discarded plastic before molding it.
